Dear ISEAPA Members/Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to share the news that Professor Erwin Diewert has been selected as the recipient of the ISEAPA Lifetime Achievement Award for 2026. (The selection and the deliberation were done in the past months by the Executive Board of ISEAPA and then approved by the Scientific Committee of EWEPA.)
This prestigious award recognises Professor Diewert’s truly outstanding and enduring contributions to economics, particularly to index number theory, measurement of productivity and price dynamics, and the broader analytical foundations that underpin much of the work carried out in efficiency and productivity analysis today. Over several decades, Erwin’s scholarship has profoundly shaped our understanding of economic measurement and has influenced generations of researchers across academia, statistical agencies, and international organizations.
Beyond his remarkable intellectual contributions, many of us know Erwin as a generous colleague and an inspiring member of our scholarly community. His work continues to guide research and policy discussions around the world, and it is therefore especially fitting that ISEAPA recognises his achievements through this award.

Following our tradition, the award will be presented at the European Workshop on Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (EWEPA) 2026 in Munich, where a special session will be dedicated to celebrating Professor Diewert’s contributions.
